Short Bio
Before marrying artist David Nielsen, the Peninsula Pulse of Door County, WI, knew Laura J. Beck as the writer of local environmental news stories, creative short stories, and erotic poetry. Most popular of Beck’s work in the Peninsula Pulse was her daring dessert column, “Sweet Spot,” 2001-2003.
Door County Magazine hired Beck to write feature articles up until 2006, when Beck and Nielsen decided to move off the peninsula.
Now a resident of Madison, WI, Laura Beck Nielsen writes flash fiction and creative short stories while querying for publication of her first novel, “As Long As We Stick Together”. A murder mystery novel taking place in Door County is also in the works. Beck Nielsen’s writer’s block gives way to poem collages she creates by using a pinch of words cut from various magazines. David Nielsen used some phrases from these works in his 2009 series of collagraphs, entitled, “Twister.”
